Pastors John and April
Lead Pastors - Message from Pastor John
Pastors John & April Serio met in Bible College in Dallas, Texas. They have been married since 1992 and in ministry for 20 years. They have served as youth pastors, associate pastors, church planters, and senior pastors. They have served Springs Journey Church now for over 7 years and love this city of Colorado Springs. They have 3 beautiful children who love Jesus and have a passion for the kingdom of God and missions work. Jordan is married to their beautiful daughter-in-law Brooke and have two sons, Parke and Summit. Jonah is in Mexico serving as a missionary with a local church planting organization, and Coral goes to Pikes Peak Christian School.
John and April understand that God does things when two or more come together, that’s why they believe in team ministry. Pastor John has gifts in preaching/teaching, leadership, and building up the body of Christ. He has a passion to see people move into their God given destiny. April has a passion to see women built up into God's masterpiece and used of God for a grander purpose than simply to exist and survive in the world today.
Together, they have a passion to see the church of Jesus flourish and minister to people of every race, economic background, nationality, and upbringing regardless of religious affiliation. The vision of Springs Journey Church came from of a prayer walk in Breckenridge, CO where God spoke and said the vision is to, "serve people on life’s journey in developing intimate relationships with God, others, and themselves." The motto is simple, "Why walk alone?"
We love coming alongside others on their spiritual journey of discovering who Jesus is and how to live out their faith in a hurting, lonely community.
"We love God's church!"
Director of family life ministries
Laura Kelley is our new Director of Family Life Ministries. Marc and Laura met while they were in college in Indiana. They have been married since 2001 and being doing ministry together for the past 17 years. Laura has served as a Children's Ministry Director for 7 years and was a Youth for Christ Campus Life Director for 3 years. Marc is an ordained Wesleyan pastor and has served as a youth pastor,an associate pastor, a lead pastor, and a college/young adult pastor. They just recently moved to Colorado Springs as Marc has begun a new journey in serving his community by becoming a firefighter with CSFD. They have 3 beautiful, energetic children who keep them on their toes: Evelyn who is going into 7th grade, Hank who is going into 4th grade and Sam who is going into 2nd grade.
Laura came to know Jesus at the age of 5 because of a church's bus ministry for children. Because of that ministry, both she, her sister and eventually both of her parents became Christ followers. Her dad is now an ordained pastor. Laura believes children's ministry doesn't just introduce the next generation to a lifelong, redemptive relationship with Jesus, but children's ministry has the ability to transform the lives and hearts of ENTIRE families! Laura believes kids come to know Jesus because they have a relationship with someone who knows Jesus, and therefore she is passionate about generational ministry, training and empowering volunteers to minister to and love kids well, and giving parents resources to help them win at leading their kids as they journey with Jesus. Raising children takes a village and parenting is humbling, character building and requires constant learning - raising children to love Jesus is an even greater faith-building journey! This is why Laura is passionate about the church being a safe, supportive, praying and equipping community for parents. She also believes the local church should be FOR their neighborhood and so she is ecstatic to join the Springs Journey family as they continue to find opportunities to love on their neighborhood and partner with and bless Jackson Elementary.
Marc and Laura feel very blessed to be part of the Springs Journey Church family and are excited to journey with you all as we learn what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community, neighborhoods and homes.
Gerri comes from Sioux City, Iowa and moved to Colorado Springs in 1987. She has a master's degree in theology (currently pursuing her doctorate) and thirty years of experience in children's ministry. Gerri has ministered overseas in twenty-five countries on many missions trips and has planted two churches. She loves teaching God's word to kids and encouraging them to grow in their walk with the Father.
Carol and her husband Jeff are both U.S. Air Force veterans. Combined, they have lived in four countries and seven states. Their travels have given them a deep appreciation for America.
They moved to Colorado Springs in October 2015 from Tucson, where Jeff retired from active duty. Their move to Colorado Springs in their words was “A total God thing. Colorado Springs was never on our radar.” Carol is thrilled and honored to be serving Springs Journey Church in office administration, and she is also a member of the Springs Journey worship team.
Springs Journey Church is excited to introduce Ben Johnson as our new Worship Director. Ben was born and raised in a Christian family in Park Forest Illinois and Dallas Texas. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Growing up he experienced many challenges that have ultimately strengthened his faith. After graduating from high school in 2011, he attended Christ for the Nations Institute before joining the U.S. Air Force reserves. He was stationed in Texas, Indiana, Mississippi and now Colorado.
After three years of reserve service, Ben decided to attend college to study music. He enrolled in Dallas Baptist University, and quickly met his wife Jewles Johnson. Jewles was born and raised in Plano Texas. She graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ben and Jewles have always felt the call to ministry, and have been involved in worship in the past. Ben and Jewles found Springs journey in December of 2017, and have felt at home ever since. He and his wife accepted the Worship Director position, and are very excited to see God work in the lives of people in Colorado Springs.
